Gary E. Grimes, 90, of Senecaville, passed away Tuesday (January 20, 2026) at his home.
He was born April 26, 1935 in Fairview, son of the late Charles Grimes and Wilma (Hayes) Grimes.
Gary retired from AEP – Central Ohio Coal where he had worked as a general foreman for twenty-seven years. Gary was also a dozer operator and worked with the crew responsible for building the interstate through the local area.
He loved to golf, play cards, and play the guitar. He enjoyed running his dozer whenever he could. Above all else, he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Gary was a US Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Buffalo VFW Post 8040.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly J. (Phillips) Grimes, who passed away March 30, 2023; his sisters, Shirley Miller and Arlene Watson; his brothers, Stanley, David, John, and Steve Grimes; and a daughter-in-law, Sherry Johnson.
Gary is survived by two sons, Charles J. (& Carla) Grimes of Senecaville and Gary Allen Grimes of Cambridge; a daughter, Susan Rene (& Rusty) Hensel of Dover; a brother, Kenneth Grimes of Fairview; three sisters, Vicky (& Rick) Schnacke of Georgia, Linda Wolff of Florida, and Sherry White of Akron; six grandchildren, Drew (& Melissa) Whitehair, Christa (& Drew) Ebner, Koby Hensel, Tiffany (& Brian) Pulliam, Nicole Grimes (& Matt), and Jacob Grimes; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday (January 27, 2026) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Commander Jim Gibson of the Guernsey County Veterans Council officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Gary, please visit our floral store.
