Gary Hill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Koskey Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 9, 2026.
Gary Michael Hill, 77, of Negaunee, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at his home.
Gary was born December 29, 1948 in Wakefield to Reino and Elaine (Parsons) Hill and graduated from Wakefield High School. He relocated to Negaunee and worked as a millwright for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, retiring with over 30 years of service.
Gary enjoyed visits to the casino with his late wife, Susan, who he was married to for 53 years, and was an avid Detroit Lions and Red Wings fan who enjoyed witnessing a good Packers loss! More than anything, he loved time spent with family, and cleverly creating unique nicknames for those closest to him.
Surviving are his two daughters, Alicia (Wayne Kendle) Smolen and Tammy (Ed) Ladue of Grand Forks, North Dakota; seven grandchildren: Zachary (Morgan) Makela and their children Ava and Eli, Cameron Ladue, Christopher (Kyra Whitney) Ladue and their daughter Oakley, Austin (Jade Novara) Hill, Brooke Hill, Hailey Hill and Katelyn Hill; four brothers: Brian (Jeanette) Hill of Colorado, Reino Hill of Wisconsin, Forrest (Diana) Hill of Florida, and Regan (Sherry) Hill of Bessemer; Four half-siblings: Jacquelyn (Gary Ilminen) Shauger of Wisconsin, Jesse (Rita) Shauger of Wakefield, Janis (Ray Henning) Shauger of Wisconsin, and Jeanne (Mark) Luczak of Bessemer; Sister-In-Law, Debra Melson of Romulus; Daughter-in-law, Melissa Hill of National Mine, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Susan (Baka) Hill in 2021; two sons: Garrett 'Butch' and Michael Hill; one half-sibling: Daniel Shauger; and two sisters-in-law: Judith and Darlene Hill.
Honoring Gary's wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will take place with his family in the Negaunee Cemetery.
