Gary Homchick

Gary John Homchick, beloved father and friend, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Monterey, California, at the age of 81. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Gary lived a life marked by adventure, craftsmanship, and deep connection to the sea.A proud veteran, he served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970, where his lifelong love for the ocean was deepened and affirmed. After his service, he continued to chart a course on the water as a skilled yacht delivery captain, navigating coastlines with expertise and a sailor's heart.Gary was a man of remarkable hands-on talent. Whether building from scratch or fixing the seemingly unfixable, he could construct anything with precision and care. His ingenuity and passion for mechanics extended from the water to the road as he was endlessly fascinated by cars with an appreciation for almost any make or model.Those who knew my dad will remember his love of a good challenge and the passion he had when talking about boats. He found peace on the ocean and purpose in craftsmanship.He will be deeply missed by family and friends who loved him.May you have fair winds and a safe harbor, Captain Gary.
