Gary Howington Obituary
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home with Brother Faron Turner officiating the service. There will be a private family graveside service following at Howington Family Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time-of-service Sunday at the funeral home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Felton and Louise Howington; in-laws: Royce and Mae Brown.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years: Linda Howington; son: Mike (Donna) Howington; daughter: Tammy (Brandon) Howington Craft; son: Mark (Jill) Howington; grandchildren: Andrew Smith, Shane (Kayla) Howington, Jake (Danie) Smith, Garrett Howington, Morgan Howington, and Lexie Craft; precious great-grandchildren: Dallie Smith, Finley Howington, Marlow Smith, Karson and Kazelyn; sisters: Doris Brown, Joyce Elliott, and Phyllis (Al) Galimore; brothers in law, Paul Brown (Deborah) and Tim Brown (Robyn) and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by special friends A.B. Battles, Pam and Steven Wells, and by a multitude of friends and fishing buddies, and a Golden Retriever named River who watched over him every day and seldom left his side since Gary's stroke last June.
Gary loved fishing the way a bird loves to fly. He was happiest on the river, and always came back beaming whenever he had a good day on the water. "I caught 'em today, baby," he'd tell his wife when he returned home. He loved being outdoors, working with his tackle and creating new lures or fishing tools. Our dog River is named "River" because Tammy said that was where Gary was most happy.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Mr. Howington's caregivers, Jane Clayton, Linda Davis, Deana Hayes, Donna Rowland, Kim Pitts and Karen Sims.
