Gary Lee Hutson

On Friday, July 25, 2025, Gary Lee Hutson of Glen Burnie, MD passed away at his home. He was the beloved husband of Louise Hutson; loving father of Christy Simonds (Roger), Heather Hutson, and Amy Rosendale (Joey); supportive grandfather of Haley and Brendan Simonds, Caleb (Phelicia) and Emma Hartwell, and Cole and Ally Rosendale; dear brother of Richard “Dickie” Love (Pat). He is also survived by his uncle, John Adams (Sis); brothers-in-law, Wyndham Colley, Tom Poling (Ramile); sister-in-law, Nancy Kelley (Jeff); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his mom, Dorothy Love; brother, Stephen Marsh; sister, Kay Colley, and sister-in-law Annie Marsh. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harley and Mary Poling.

Gary was born in Baltimore, MD. He joined the Army and was stationed in Alaska, where he was the driver for the General on base and trusted with top secret security clearance. On leave, he met his soulmate Louise Poling while she was working at Dairy King in Philippi, WV. They married on September 2, 1967, and moved to Baltimore, MD and eventually made their home in Glen Burnie, MD where they raised their three daughters. He started work at Hess before achieving a long career as co-owner and operator of E & G Tractor Trailer Repair. He and Louise attended Messiah United Methodist Church.

Gary was kind, generous, and would give the shirt off his back to help others. A gentleman, handyman, and most importantly a family man. He loved the simple things in life and had a quest for learning, whether from watching the news, reading encyclopedias, or studying road maps. He could often be found around a family card table, notably on trips to West Virginia playing Rook or at a ballgame cheering on the Orioles. He found great joy in attending many, many sporting events of his children and grandchildren, taking on the role of number one fan! He liked the peace of deer hunting in the woods with his grandsons, and the occasional truck nap that came along with it. His zest for life brought a love of travel. Whether it was a cross-country 5th wheel trip or relaxing on the balcony at Myrtle Beach, Louise and his trusty atlas were always by his side.

Most recently, he and Louise enjoyed their daily diner outings. They were truly best friends and adored each other’s companionship for the last 57+ years of marriage. Louise, as equally devoted, lovingly cared for Gary emotionally and physically during tough seasons of life. Their example of what a marriage should look like will be instilled in our family for generations to come. It’s hard to imagine life without him in it, but we’ll smile when we think of his legacy and what he gave us in this life.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, PA, 1 2nd Avenue, SW ,(at Crain Highway), Glen Burnie, MD 21061 on Monday, August 4, 2025 from 3:00 pm till the start of the Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 6:00 pm. His committal service and interment will be held at a later date at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD.
