OBITUARY
Gary J Iorio
6/17/1923 – 12/30/2024
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Gary Iorio at the extraordinary age of 101. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone lucky enough to have met him, Gary was a man of faith whose unwavering belief brought him peace and strength throughout his life. He left this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Gary lived a life full of remarkable experiences and opportunities, some of which he covered in a published autobiography. He served his country with honor in World War II and had a long and fulfilling career with NBC, where he played a part in bringing groundbreaking television moments to life. Along the way, he had the chance to meet some of the most famous names of his time, a privilege he humbly described as simply being "in the right place at the right time." Gary loved all sports and was a superior softball pitcher who brought NBC to its championship level. He won many bowling league championships, took up golf as a senior, and went on to win golf tournaments. Gary also had a love for horse racing and the excitement of racetracks.
Gary had a passion for dancing that brought joy to everyone around him, whether on the dance floor or in the living room. He was a natural storyteller with a great sense of humor, and his jokes and his stories were legendary in the family.
"Master of all masters, get out of your barnacle and put on your squibs and crackers. For Whiteface Simonie has got a spark of hot cockalorum on its tail, and unless you get some pondalorum, high topper mountain will be all on hot cockalorum." – if you hear his voice when you read these words, that is because you've asked him to repeat this story on many occasions, and he was happy to tell the tale!
For years, he embraced the life of a snowbird, traveling between New York and Florida and above all else, he treasured his family. The Lord called Gary's wife Madeline home at a very young age. Gary was later blessed to share 30 happy years with his second wife, Dorothy. He is survived by his four children, Donna and her husband John, Madeline and her husband Richard, Debbie and her husband Larry, Gary and his wife Ingrid; 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom were his greatest pride and joy. His love for life and the people in it will live on through them. He is now reunited with his loving wife Madeline, smiling down on us from within the arms of the Lord.
Gary, your laughter, kindness, and endless dance moves will never be forgotten. Thank you for teaching us all to find joy in every moment.
