Gary leaves behind his wife, Shelia Hammond Jackson; brother, Bobby Earl Jackson; sister, Lyn Evans; bonus daughter, Cher (Doyle) Smith and her family; several nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A proud graduate of Roosevelt High School, Gary began his career in the printing industry right after graduation. Alongside his brother, he built and operated their own printing company before later retiring as a Printing Chemical Specialist. His dedication and work ethic were matched only by the joy he found in connecting with people.
Gary had a passion for dancing, especially The Shag, a love that brought him both joy and recognition. In 2017, he was honored as a Hall of Fame inductee for Shag-Atlanta, a testament to both his skill and the friendships he made within the dance community.
Above all, Gary's greatest pride was his family. He worked tirelessly to ensure they were loved, supported, and cared for, always placing their needs before his own. His gentle smile, generous spirit, and kind heart will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A service to honor Gary's life will take place on his 83rd birthday, Sunday, August 17, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM in the East Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors. An inurnment will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in Atlanta at a later time. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors.
