Gary W. Jeffers, 92, of Austin, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at UPMC - Cole, Coudersport. He was born on December 27, 1933, the son of the late Melburn and Vernice (Knapp) Jeffers. He married the former Linda L. Friendel on July 14, 1956, and celebrated 69 years of marriage together.
Gary was a graduate of Austin High School, Class of 1952. He was a member of Labor Union #836 and worked many years in construction. He also retired from the Austin Boro where he served as the Water & Street Supervisor and served as a Deputy Game Warden for many years. He enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Gary was also an avid outdoors enthusiast and an avid coin collector.
In addition to his wife, Linda, Gary is survived by three children: Mark W. (Kathy) Jeffers, Michele L. (Al) Gledhill, and Thomas L. (Julie) Jeffers, all of Austin; a sister, Nila Mericle of Eden, NC; grandchildren: Kevin Gledhill, Angela Jacobs, Kristopher Gledhill, Kyle Gledhill, Sarah Stafford, Zachery Jeffers, Daniel Taylor, Rachel Thurman, and Katelyn Ditzler, great grandchildren: Isaac Gledhill, Rylee Gledhill, Kohen Stafford, Deakin Stafford, Zeke Ditzler, Phoebe Thurman, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by 5 siblings.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects, Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 11am-12 noon at the God’s Country Global Methodist Church, 26 Turner St., Austin. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon with Pastor Todd Lamer officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the Austin Ambulance Assoc., 42 Main St., Austin, PA 16720.
