Gary Thomas "Newt" Johnson

Gary "Newt" Thomas Johnson, age 68, of Bedford, Kentucky, was born on May 1, 1957, to parents Buford Lee Johnson and Betty (Hieatt) Johnson Temple. He was a 1975 graduate of Trimble County High School. After high school Gary spent time working in the oil fields of Oklahoma. He later returned to Bedford, KY and finished his career working for Oldham County and Henry County Water Departments. Gary formerly served as a board member for the Trimble County Conservation District and served several terms as a Commissioner for the City of Bedford, KY. Gary was a member of Bedford Christian Church, where he sang and played guitar in his younger years. He enjoyed playing music, hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and had a passion for wildlife, spending many years as a wildlife rehabilitator. Gary passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Carroll County Hospital in Carrollton, Kentucky.
Gary will be missed by his two sons: Caleb Johnson and his wife, Whitney of Hanover, Indiana, and Cody Johnson of Bedford; his mother Betty (Hieatt) Johnson Temple of Bedford; one sister, Beverly Miles of Nabb, Indiana; two loving grandchildren: Wyatt and Clara Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Buford Lee Johnson and his brother, Buford Neil Johnson.
