Gary Louis Johnson, age 76, of Allegan, Michigan, passed away on March 16, 2026, at Beacon Health System in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Gary was born on October 22, 1949, in Allegan, Michigan, the son of Clair and Norma (Sweet) Johnson. On October 12, 1972, he married the love of his life, Shirley Alsip, in Saugatuck, Michigan. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and shared experiences.

Gary dedicated 48 years of his life to working as an over-the-road truck driver, working for various transportation companies and eventually retiring from Ralph Moyer Trucking Company. Through his years on the road, he formed countless friendships across the country and was known for his easygoing nature and sense of humor. He never met a stranger and left a lasting impression wherever he went.

Outside of work, Gary found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved helping his friend Ralph on the farm, listening to country music, and spending time fishing. He especially cherished time spent with his family—whether it was sharing laughs, telling stories, or enjoying breakfast outings with his siblings. Known as a constant joker, Gary brought smiles to those around him and will be remembered for his warmth, wit, and kind heart. Above all, his best friend and partner in life was his beloved wife, Shirley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Johnson; his sons, Michael Johnson of Allegan, Michigan, and Herb Ledbetter and his children; his grandchildren, Kevin Johnson, Adam Johnson, and Sophia Johnson; and his great-grandchild, Parker Johnson. He is also survived by his siblings, Lenna (Ron) Colick, Marilyn Johnson, Roger Johnson, David Johnson, and Susie Johnson; cousins raised like brothers, Randy and Bryan Sweet; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Norma Johnson.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.
