Gary L Kelly

Gary Kelly passed away at his home in Cody, WY on September 13th 2025. Gary was born on February 11th 1948 in Frederick, OK to Iris and Evonne Kelly. He was welcomed to the family by older brother John, and later followed by brothers Lee and Don. He was raised on the family farm in Martha, OK, and graduated from Martha Highschool. He completed one semester at Oklahoma State University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1968. He served six years as an electronics technician on the USS Columbus, guided missile cruiser, stationed in Morocco. During his liberty time, Gary toured Portugal and Spain on a Norton Commando motorcycle, which he ferried to Morrocco and later brought home.

Upon his return from service, Gary took over the family farm for the next 10 years and married Cheryl Thornton in 1979. Together, they welcomed their children, Holly and Weston. They moved to Cody in 1988 where Gary served as a Detention Deputy for the Park County Sheriff's Office. Later, he worked as a truck driver until retirement where he traveled the country hauling everything from oversized farm equipment to sheet rock and trusses. In 2002, Gary met Louise McGlothlin and she became his second wife; welcoming her children Kristi Baukol, Trinity Schultz, Shannon Knapp, and Chelsea Schultz to his family. In retirement, Gary and Louise split their time between Apache Junction, AZ and Cody, WY, where they enjoyed square dancing and live music.

Gary is survived by his wife Louise of Cody WY, daughter Holly (Bryce) of Jones OK, son Wes (Zari) of Henderson NV, brother Don (Marsha) of Norman OK, Sister-in law Mary Ann Kelly of Lake Texoma OK, step-children Kristi, Trinity, Shannon, Chelsea, grandchildren Trace and Tristin Baukol, Ray Campbell, Justin Pawley, Daniel Evert, James McEndree, Ethan Krantz, Thomas Wells, Aspen and Hunter Schultz, and great grandchildren Gemma and Theodore Baukol; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his brothers John and Lee, parents Iris and Evonne.

Services will be held at a later date.
