Gary King Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 12, 2025.
Gary left us on October 25, 2025, after a long journey with Parkinsons. He was born on October 6, 1936, to Elmo & Cora King in Lewiston, ID. His parents had a dairy farm in Lapwai, ID, where he grew up with his two brothers, Montie (Wink) and George. He was raised in a country setting around Aunts, Uncles and cousins. This shaped his childhood and he continued a country lifestyle his whole life. He was the last member of his immediate family, leaving only nieces and nephews.
Gary graduated from high school in Lapwai, ID. He spent 2 years in community college taking business and then enlisted in the Navy. He was employed by the USS Frank E. Evans. He enjoyed the chance to travel to places like Japan, Hawaii and finished his tour in the Philippines.
He returned to the US and started a career at Bell Telephone in Spokane. He retired from AT&T in Yakima at 55. He took small jobs after his retirement to keep busy. He worked at Meals on Wheels, delivered blood and did taxes during tax season.
Gary was a smart funny person who loved to talk with people. Fishing and bird hunting were always on the agenda. He was also a runner, tried dog sledding, ran a worm farm, raised quail, and went back packing with his pack donkeys. His family was raised with wild birds, fish, pickled quail eggs and Gary's sourdough biscuits.
When Gary transferred to Yakima with PNW Bell, he was introduced to his future wife by a co-worker. After a short courtship they were married in Cour D'Alene, ID in 1965. The marriage lasted 60 ½ years and produced 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Gary and Joyce resided most of their life in Selah, WA and raised their children there. Gary loved his children and talked about them to anyone that would listen. He went to all their games, took them camping and spent time with them. He looked forward to every year planning and going to Kelly Creek in Idaho, to camp and fish with his son, brothers, and friends. His children and grandchildren were his heart.
Gary is survived by his wife, Joyce (Moore), his children: Kim Henriquez (Kevin), Kathy King, Tim King (Tina), & Keri Turner, his grandchildren: Dylan, Megan(Fonzie), Wyatt, Calvin (Sam), Skyler, Ethan, Sydney, & Luke, his great grandchildren: William, Sophia, Ethan, Dom & Milo, his sister in-laws: Jean King (George) & Sarah King (Wink), Jan Moore (Jim), Judy Morehead (Dave), Jeanie Knox (Dan), his brother-in-law Jerry Moore (Joan), and many nieces and nephews.
