Gary L. Klusman, age 75, of Huron, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Avantara in Huron. His memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home, with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Gary Lee Klusman was born on December 24, 1950, in Orchard, Nebraska, to Frederick and Betty (Ickler) Klusman. He graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre in 1969.
Gary served in the Army from 1969 to 1972. He was very proud of his service during the Vietnam War and of his status as a veteran. Gary spent many years working in construction, most notably with Picek Construction Company, where he dedicated 20 years of service before retiring.
Gary’s passion for collecting was well known. To call him an avid coin collector would be an understatement—he took great joy in collecting, sorting, and carefully examining coins, stamps, and glassware, especially blue glass. He valued his quiet time and the simple pleasures it brought. Gary was also a highly accomplished pool player, earning more than 80 trophies while competing in tournaments throughout South Dakota. A loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, he followed the team with enthusiasm. Above all else, Gary treasured the time he spent with Carol, the love of his life.
Gary is survived by his life partner, Carol Bartels, of Huron; his son, Kyle Klusman of Huron; three grandchildren, Cadence, Cooper, and Kora Klusman, all of Huron; his daughter-in-law, Tia Klusman of Huron; his niece, Cory Klusman; and many cousins in Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Nathan Klusman; and his brother, Donnie Klusman.
