Gary Kub, age 79, passed away unexpectedly in his home on October 31, 2025 in Baxter, MN. He was born on July 29, 1946 to Joe and Ruth Kub and grew up in Hinckley, MN. Gary went to college at St. Cloud State University, where he met his wife Gayle in fencing class when they were 19. They were married on July 5, 1975 and celebrated their 50th anniversary this past summer. Gary graduated from college and moved to Brainerd in 1968. He worked for the state of Minnesota as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for 36 years.
Gary enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Ponto Lake. Paddle boat rides in the afternoon and pontoon rides in the evening made for many great days.
Hunting, fishing, bike riding, snowshoeing, and hiking, were some of his favorite activities. He also enjoyed music, traveling, and bird watching. Many afternoons were spent rigging up different contraptions to keep the squirrels away from Gayle’s bird feeders.
Gary had a passion for many things. You may have seen him driving around town in one of his classic cars. He had an interest and vast knowledge for antique guns. Gary owned many vintage Cub Cadet tractors and learned how to fix them.
Gary is survived by his wife, Gayle, son, Nathan (girlfriend, Tatianna), sister Gail Novitzki (David), sister-in-law Joan Zimmerman, and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by son, Jonathan, and his parents.
There will be a visitation on Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter. A celebration of life will be held at All Saints Catholic Church on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 11:00 am with a lunch to follow.
