Gary Floyd Looney, a man of resilience and unwavering determination, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, in Austin, TX, at the age of 82. Born on October 2, 1942, in Springfield, MO. Gary led a life marked by service, innovation, and deep love for his family.

Gary began his journey as a proud member of the Army during the Vietnam War, where his bravery and commitment were evident to all who served alongside him. After returning home, his pioneering spirit led him to establish his own computer business in the late 1970s, a time when few could envision the technological landscape that lay ahead. Through decades of dedication, Gary never retired, choosing instead to immerse himself in the work he loved and the community of colleagues he cherished.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gary was a devoted father to his son, Doug Looney. Always a supportive figure, he was just a phone call away, ready to offer help and guidance whenever they were needed. Despite a tendency to be grumpy now and again—a trait his friends and loved ones would affectionately tease him about—his warmth shone through in the hugs he so loved to give.

Gary took great pride in his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and were the light of his later years. His beloved wife, Sharron, predeceased him, and they are now reunited in peace.

Gary is survived by his son Doug Looney and his wife Jennifer Looney and their children Henry and Hazel, his siblings Ron Looney, Janice Eddington and Greg Looney.

On Saturday November 23rd, the family invites friends and loved ones to honor Gary's life at a funeral service held at All Faiths Funeral Home, 8507 N IH 35 Service Rd, Austin, TX 78753. Visitation will begin at 4 pm, followed by the service at 5 pm. A reception will follow at Gary’s house, where stories can be shared, and his memory celebrated. The reception will be catered. If you plan to attend, please let Doug know as soon as possible.

Gary’s legacy of perseverance and love for those closest to him will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him
