Gary Lowe Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. He was born to George A. and Ruth (McCauley) Lowe and raised in Indianapolis. Gary graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1956 and was a Giant fan throughout his life attending countless sporting events. He was drafted into the Army in 1961 and proudly served as a member of the 1st Infantry Division, also known as The Big Red One. After the Army, Gary met and married the girl of his dreams, Diane Eckert. They spent 61 years together. For most of his career, Gary worked for L.S. Ayres as a semi-truck driver. When the stores closed, he transitioned into a part-time job working on a truck dock until retirement. Gary had several interests and hobbies including woodworking and gardening. He was an avid college football fan and enjoyed cheering for Indiana teams and Kansas State.

Gary will be remembered for his love of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He attended every Indy 500 from 1964 through 2023 except for 2020 when the track was closed due to Covid. The month of May was his favorite, and many happy memories were made with good friends and family at the track.

Gary is survived by his loving “woman”, Diane Lowe, his son, Gary Lowe Jr. (Shirley Wiker), and his daughter, Kandy Lowe (Raud Schmidt). He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lucille Wade, and his brothers, Joel Lowe and George Lowe Jr.

Services will be private.
