Gary Lutz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shaker-Hill Funeral Home - New Britain on Feb. 13, 2026.
Gary R. Lutz, 63, of Middletown, CT, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. After a courageous several year battle with kidney disease, Gary succumbed to a sudden infection that his body could no longer fight. While his family mourns his loss, they find profound relief in knowing he is finally at peace and free from pain. Born on Long Island, NY, Gary was the son of the late Kenneth Lutz and Blanche Bernard (Taylor). Though he lived a life that was not always traditional, he was a constant presence in the lives of his children. He was their "loudest supporter," a man who stood in the shadows of their successes, beaming with pride at every accomplishment.

Gary was a man of simple pleasures and practical wisdom. He enjoyed fishing, early breakfasts, and never passed up steak and eggs at a good diner. He loved stirring a pot of his famous sauce or chicken and dumplings soup. He often stated that "if it wasn't for bad luck, he wouldn't have any luck at all," yet he always carried a hopeful outlook that things would be okay. He could usually be found in a good mood, singing a little ditty he made up about anything at all. He had a particular light in his eyes for seafood dinners and a genuine, jaw dropping reaction to a juicy piece of gossip or a shocking price tag. His friends remember his kindness and his listening ear.

He is survived by his ex wife, Patricia Lutz, and their children: identical twin daughters Angela Read (husband Scott) and Danielle Lutz (partner Marc), his son, Gary Lutz (wife Cheryl Hyde), and his beloved grandson, Kenny Lutz. He also leaves behind his siblings Paul Lutz (wife Debbie), Jodi Magill (Lutz), and Steven Lutz (wife Kris); and a large, loving circle of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gary's greatest act of love was sharing his experiences and hardships openly so his children could walk a road of peace and opportunity.

Funeral services will be held when the weather is warmer on Long Island, NY, where he will be laid to rest with his parents for eternal peace.
