Gary Malmquist Obituary

Gary Earl Malmquist, born May 22, 1951, in Quincy, Massachusetts, to George B. Malmquist and Doris G. (Bergeron) Malmquist, has passed away. During his early childhood, Gary's family relocated to Muskegon, Michigan, where he grew up. He was a proud graduate of Mona Shores High School and Muskegon Community College.

Gary was a journeyman patternmaker and dedicated 30 years of his career to Anderson Pattern. He was full of life, known for his love of hot rods, motorcycles, and mini bikes. Gary embraced life with a playful spirit, always ready for a good joke and new adventures. Those who knew him will remember his warm personality and the countless friendships he nurtured-cherished old friends and always a few new ones.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Joy (Drinkard) Malmquist, whom he married in March 1974, and their son, Dustin Layne Malmquist. His extended family includes his sister-in-law, Mary (Drinkard) Hager (Ed, deceased); brother-in-law, Tilden (Skip) Drinkard (Ann); nieces, Hettie Joy Hager, Mary Layne (Hager) Endres (Jack), Virginia (Hager) Rakowski (Chris), and Meegan (Hager) Young (Tim), Josh Drinkard and Annie (Drinkard) Dixon, his favorite cousins, David Malmquist of California and Paul Malmquist of Vermont; and many cousins and relatives in Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-laws, Dale Drinkard and Ed Hager, and his beloved mother in law, Mary Melva Drinkard.

A private family memorial will be planned, with a celebration of Gary's life to take place at a later date. Friends of Gary, Joy and Dustin are encouraged to gather with them at that time to honor and celebrate this wonderful man.

My condolences to your family. Gary was a part of the twice a year ritual at Knob Creek Gun Ranges Machine Gun Shoot & Military Gun Show. Always enjoyed seeing his smiling face along with his Machine Gun Shoot Shadow, Mike Westerhouse at the shoots. Again, sorry for your loss.

Gary was a good friend and we had a lot of good times together at Knob Creek, and we worked together for about 25 years, learned a lot from Gary over the years and we to a lot of the same places after retirement, I will deeply miss him, he was a great guy. RIP Harry Skok

Joy and Dustin, I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of when Gary would stop by in his hot rod or a military vehicle and visit with my dad. He would often entertain us kids and light off a few fireworks. Gary was always very kind. My prayers are with your family in this difficult time.

Gary and I shared a love for 305cc Honda Scrambler motorcycles. He was at my house last summer for almost a day sharing motorcycle stories. He told me about his illness but also said he thought he had several years ahead of him. I'm shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. Sincere condolences to his family.

Gary would always ask me if I was going to the patternmakers breakfast to save him a seat next to me because we would have so much fun talking about things that happen long ago we would do a lot of laughing miss you a lot thinking of you often I will see you again someday your friend bill
