Gary Leroy Mason, 84, of
Akron, Colorado, passed away October 17, 2025 at the Yuma District Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was born on December 19, 1940 in Akron to Robert Harvey Mason and Barbara Hedwig Florian Mason. The second born son, having two brothers, Delmar and Dale. Growing up on the farm south of Akron surrounded by many cousins. Employed for several years at Davis Brothers before moving his young family to Grand Junction where he worked in the welding industry. They moved back to Akron in 1967 where he purchased a flower shop that was owned for over 20 years. He felt a sense of honor when creating flower arrangements and especially casket pieces. Gary was a very hard worker his whole life and instilled a strong work ethic, morals, integrity, and the value of making an honest dollar into each one of his kids. He was always on the move managing several businesses - a flower shop, a gas station, a car wash, a laundromat, and a trucking business with his brothers.
Gary's greatest joys were his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His passion centered on hunting and fishing which he loved to teach his grandkids as well as the kids involved in shooting sports and anyone else who wanted to participate. He spent a lot of time chauffeuring baseball teams when his grandchildren were small, quickly becoming Grandpa Gary to all the kids.
His sense of humor surpassed most. He loved people and there wasn't anyone that could escape his harassment. Everywhere he went, he knew someone and would exchange friendly banter, and some might even say that he was a bit ornery.
He was a fantastic carpenter, having built his own house and business buildings. He could build or fix anything and he was always the first to jump in and help each one of his kids with projects at their homes.
On December 18, 2005, Gary and Pam Brown were married with all family present. With Pam's artwork, Gary found a new creative outlet and stepped into the role of matting and framing the artwork for her gallery. They enjoyed traveling to many places and states for different art shows. Hosting holidays and family gatherings, at their home, was always a joy. Gary was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church and he and Pam were regular attendees.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Barbara Mason, Stepfather J.I. Leigh, brothers Delmar Mason and Dale Mason, brother-in-law Bill Wells, in-laws Glen and Mary Krause, in-laws Doris and Clark Dunlap, stepdaughter Monica Brown, and niece Sara Churchill.
He is survived by his wife, Pam, daughter Cindy and husband Bill of Akron, son Bob and wife Danielle of Castle Rock, and daughter Ann of Parker. Grandchildren Rory and wife Jamie, Mariah and husband Blane, Riley and girlfriend Courtney, Madison and numerous nieces and nephews. Great grandchildren Raegan, Alexandra, Liam, Aurora, Gabriel, Nolan, and Macie. Sisters-in-law Sidney Wells, Sheryl Mason, and Linda Mason of Akron.
He was loved by many and will forever be missed.
