Gary R. McDowell of Pennsauken passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday July 30, 2024 with his beloved wife Ellen by his side. He was 67 years old. Gary was born on May 8, 1957 in Wichita, Kansas to the late Paul and Katherine McDowell. He resided in Cherry Hill and was a graduate of Cherry Hill High School West, before moving to Pennsauken 41 years ago. Gary retired from Cherry Hill Township where he worked as Chief of Emergency Medical Services and an Emergency Medical Technician. He enjoyed having been able to travel extensively with his wife Ellen, and also had a love for aviation and trains. Gary took pleasure working in his yard and relaxing in his backyard pool. Gary will be greatly missed by his four cats, whom he loved so. Gary was known for being a great conversationalist and enjoyed chatting with everyone he met whether he knew them or not.
Beloved husband of 41 years to Ellen M. McDowell, Esq. (nee Hewitt), loving brother of Paul Douglas (Sherry) McDowell, Carole Castine and Lawrence Dwight (Laurie) McDowell, dear brother-in-law of John Hewitt, Kathryn (Senthil) Hewitt, Paul Hewitt and the late Douglas Hewitt, Gary also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and visitation with his family on Sunday, August 4th, 12 noon - 1:30 PM at the MARK C. TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, 38 N. Forklanding Road, Maple Shade. Gary's funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
