We mournfully announce the unexpected passing on Sunday, June 8, 2025 of Gary Dean Mumphrey, 64, of Old Town Avondale, Arizona.
Born to Lydia Mumphrey (Prince) and West Jameson, Gary first blessed this world on March 20, 1961 as Lydia's youngest son and ninth of ten children. While an aspiring major leaguer and pitching prospect back in the day, Gary was always and forever a steadfastly devoted son, brother, and uncle.
Gary will be remembered as a giving man who lived a full and vibrant life in spite of chronic health conditions. With his laid back personality and natural ability to make friends easily, Gary found joy in life's simple pleasures as he traveled the country spending time with family before returning to his true love, the great state of Arizona.
Gary leaves behind five sisters and one brother to cherish his memories: Geneva Sutton, Paul Mumphrey, Lillie Pearl Heard (Frank), Beneva Hernandez, Anna Mae Caldwell (Anthony), and April Anderson (Will). Both parents and Mumphrey siblings Agusta Ray, Nancy, and Peter preceded Gary in death.
While we will miss him dearly, Gary's unrelenting spirit lives on. May his strength continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who knew and truly loved him.
In celebration of finally being free from this cruel forsaking world, services will be held on Juneteenth, Thursday, June 19, 2025:
09:15am - Funeral Procession congregating at Avenidas Funeral Chapel, 522 E. Western Avenue - Avondale, AZ
