Gary P. Nelson, 75, passed away with family by his side on Friday, February 27, 2026, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was born on May 9, 1951, in Warwick, RI to the late Richard H. and Frances B. (Florek) Nelson. Gary shared 33 memorable years with his life partner, Robert W. Gentile, until Robert's passing in 2009.

Professionally, Gary began his career as an accountant with General Electric before becoming a mathematics teacher in the Attleboro School System. He was known for his sharp mind, dedication to his students.

Outside of his professional life, Gary had a deep appreciation for antiques and enjoyed antiquing whenever he could. He loved all types of music and the arts, and he and Bob especially enjoyed traveling together and exploring new places. Gary also took great pride in owning a number of special cars throughout his lifetime, each one reflecting his distinct taste and enthusiasm.

He is survived by his brother, Paul M. Nelson and his wife, Leslie, of Coventry; his nieces and nephews, Michael and his wife Lindsay, Ashley and her husband Eric, Justin and his wife Erica, and Victoria; as well as his grandnieces and grandnephews, Luca, Gianna, Avery, Logan, Harper, Olivia, Beckett, and Julia. He also leaves two dear friends, Darrin Barber and Robert Meagher, whose friendship meant a great deal to him.

All services will be private at Gary's request.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Gary's memory to the American Parkinson Disease Association, in the hope of helping others fight the very disease he courageously faced.
