Gary Lee Nutter, 77, of Clarksburg passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.

Gary was born in Clarksburg, WV on February 5, 1948 to Arthur Emory Nutter and Barbara Buffey Nutter.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart of 54 years, Debbie Funk Nutter whom he married on October 2, 1971.

He is also survived by his son Michael (Ashley) Nutter of Bridgeport; daughter Nicole (Michael) Bennett of Clarksburg; grandchildren Sara Comer, Jake Comer, and Carson Bennett all of Clarksburg and Nate Morrow and Nola Nutter of Bridgeport; sisters-in-law Sharon Mazzei of Johnson City, TN and Vicky Sutton of Punta Gorda, FL; brothers-in-law Jimmy (Rosanna) Funk of Clarksburg; and Steve Funk of Nutter Fort; dear cousins Eddie, Jodie, Kim, Tracy, and Dicky; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved and cherished dearly.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William (Bill) Sutton and lifelong friend David Romano.

Gary was a proud graduate of Roosevelt-Wilson High School Class of 1966. He then attended Salem College where he obtained his bachelor's degree in education. Upon graduation, he embarked on a career in teaching that spanned over 40 years, touching generations of students in Harrison County.

Aside from teaching, Gary was an avid outdoorsman who had a great appreciation for nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working at his farm and sharing that love with his family. Amongst his other hobbies, he loved to ride Harley's, travel to the Amish country, and he never turned down a good bonfire.

Gary will be remembered for his love of animals, his zest for life, and the unconditional love he had for his grandkids.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Johnstown Volunteer Fire Department at 4596 Johnstown Rd, Lost Creek, WV 26385.

Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, where funeral services will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 11:00 am with Pastor Sam O.
