Gary Keith Owenby, 67, of Dallas, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Gaston County on March 4, 1956 to Faye Phillips Wright and the late Dan Howard Owenby. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ricky and Roger Owenby.
Gary was a dedicated family-man and loving husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. He adored his grandson and became a coach for him when he started playing soccer and baseball. He was an avid and talented sportsman who played baseball, football, and was a UNC fan. Gary loved to be outdoors doing yardwork, he was more than a hard worker and was passionate about any work he done. He would go above and beyond to help people and really believed in second chances. In the 90’s he helped to create the work-release program to give the incarcerated the dignity of being able to work and be productive members of society. Gary leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Jan Grigg Owenby; mother, Faye Phillips Wright; daughter, Casey Quinn; grandson, Alex Faulkenberry-Owenby; sister, Kathy Smart; niece and nephew, Christal Cudd and Ricky Parker.
