Gary Peterson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bridges Funeral Home from Jan. 9 to Jan. 19, 2026.
Gary Olen Peterson July 5, 1952 - January 3, 2026
Gary Olen Peterson was born in Topeka, Kansas, and passed away in Knoxville, Tennessee, leaving behind a life defined by loyalty, love, and steadfast dedication to the people who mattered most to him.
Gary proudly served in the United States Navy aboard an aircraft carrier, a role that reflected the same qualities he carried throughout his life-steadiness, commitment, and quiet strength. He was deeply rooted in his family and remained a constant presence for those he loved.
At the heart of Gary's life was his wife, Jodi Amorski. Gary was Jodi's shadow, her constant, her person. They were truly inseparable, sharing a bond so strong that anyone who knew one knew the other. Their love was unmistakable and rare, and it is impossible to think of Jodi without thinking of Gary.
He loved football, especially Sundays filled with games, commentary, and friendly debates. He proudly supported both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, never quite choosing just one-something those who watched games with him came to know and love. He also had a deep appreciation for music, with Pink Floyd holding a special place in his heart.
Gary is survived by his son, Shawn; stepson, Jason (Kendra); his cherished grandchildren; his brothers, Alvin (Sena), Daryl (Sharon), and Mike (Lisa); many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, adopted children, and countless friends.
Family and friends will meet at 9:45 AM on Friday, January 23, 2026 at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for a 10:00 AM Inurnment.
