Graveside services and interment with Military Honors for Gary Poland of Paola, Kansas formerly of Butler, Missouri will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Appleton City Cemetery. Visitation prior to services 10 - 11 a.m. Friday Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Contributions to First Baptist Church of Paola, Kansas. Gary Keel Poland, age 84 of Paola, Kansas formerly of Butler, Missouri passed away on Friday, October 12, 2024 a month shy of his 85th birthday with his daughter and granddaughter by his side. He was born November 19, 1939 to John Keel and Marjorie Ellen Hawley Poland in Compton Junction, Missouri.
Gary, one of three boys, grew up in Butler, Missouri where he went to school and was a 1959 graduate of Butler High School. After graduation, he elected to enlist in the Marine Corp where he proudly served his country. In 1972 Gary moved to Paola, Kansas and lived there until he passed. He was employed as an Engineer Manager for Telecom which later became Sprint until his retirement. On May 24, 1969 Gary married Donna Lee Reed and had a wonderful 55 years together raising three children in Paola.
Gary was known as reserved, funny and loving but his favorite was Grampio and Papa. He enjoyed fishing, watching football, playing and watching golf. Gary was a family man and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna; five children, Shawn, Kurtis, Christina, Matt (Maryah) and Gari Dawn; 13 grandchildren, Kelsi, Steven, Gatlin, Houston, Cheyenne, Alyssa, Valerie, Ashley, Audrey, Evona, Caleb, Mitchell and Victoria; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennie Poland (Johannah); and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mike Poland.
