Gary Eugene Raines, 77, of Marshall, MO, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, at E. W. Thompson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sedalia. He was born on September 19, 1947, in Marshall, MO, the son of Robert Eugene Raines and Myrtle Louise (Shrader) Raines, who preceded him in death.

On July 23, 2016, in Marshall, MO, he was united in marriage to Jenny L. Raines, who resides in the home.

Gary's life was marked by his dedication to his work. He grew up on a farm in Northeastern Pettis County and later became a union heavy equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 101 of Kansas City. His work took him to various projects, including the construction of Highway 65, KCI airport, and Arrowhead Stadium. He also owned his own excavating business, Raines Excavating, and was a livestock hauler for his father's business. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and he held several over-the-road truck driving positions, including for Frank Potter Trucking, Ferguson Livestock, and Ditzfeld Transfer.

When Gary wasn't working, he was indulging in his hobbies. He owned and operated his own hog farm with his family, and in his retirement, he found a new passion in antique tractor pulling. This was a family affair, and he loved every moment of it. He also enjoyed traveling to Mission, TX, during the winter, and dancing at the Moose with his wife. His love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies, which included deer, pheasant, and squirrel hunting.

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by three sons, Jimmie Raines, of Sedalia, Kenneth Raines (Jennifer) of Hughesville, MO, Myron "Buddy" Raines (Kathy) of Republic, MO; a step-son, Christopher Schuster (Melanie) of Pacific, MO; three stepdaughters, Robin May (Tom) of Columbia, Michele Laas (Andy) of Stover, MO, and Sonya Mertgen (Ernie) of Florence, MO; thirteen grandchildren, Tyler, Merissa, Shelly, Jordan, Shelby, Bennett, Austin, Mayson, Ashley, Tiffany, Zach, Madeline, and Nigel; eighteen great-grandchildren and two on the way; a brother, Michael Raines (Barbara) of Nelson, MO; two sisters, Roberta Thomas of Marshall, MO, Rhonda Ulmer (Jim) of Green Ridge, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a nephew, Ryan Raines.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, with Pastor Rusty Thomas officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.

The burial will be at Miller's Chapel Cemetery, Nelson, MO.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Cornine, Austin Bunch, Roger Raines, Joe Carr, Justin Thomas, and Rock Curry.

Honorary bearers will be Tyler Raines and Mayson Raines.
