Gary Powell Renaker, lovingly known as Gary to his friends and family, lived a life marked by adventure and love. Born in Covington, KY, on June 29, 1940, Gary embarked on his final journey in Piedmont, SC, on January 18, 2025, leaving a legacy of warm memories and stories of exploration.
In a love story that spanned over three decades, Gary was the beloved husband to Patsy Renaker, his partner in both life and their countless travels. Their bond was a testament to enduring affection and shared passion. Gary's spirit will live on through his cherished children: Doug Renaker and partner Annette of Leicester, NC; Dwayne Renaker and Gillian of New Port Richie, FL; and Leslie Germano and her husband Anthony of Blythewood, SC.
Gary was a brother to Phillip Renaker and wife Gloria of Allen, TX; Gayle Keeton of Mason, OH; and Mary Lou Jacob of Cincinnati, OH. His parents, Mildred Chisholm Renaker and Douglas Powell Renaker, predeceased him, as did his sister Gayle's husband Otto Keeton just shy of two weeks prior. His legacy further blooms in the lives of his four grandchildren and his four great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his adventurous spirit and loving nature.
Known for his handyman skills, Gary had a knack for fixing and improving anything he touched, much like the way he approached life. His interests were as vast as the open skies he so loved, from hiking to wildflower spotting and birdwatching. Gary and Patsy shared an unquenchable thirst for adventure, often found on the Blue Ridge Parkway surrounded by natural beauty.
An adventurous soul, a loving partner, father, and friend, and a passionate man, Gary's presence was a beacon of joy and enthusiasm. Even his pet dog Luci knew the warmth of his heart, a heart that has now found its peace. Gary will be dearly missed but his essence, as vibrant as the trails he wandered, will forever guide those he loved.
