Susan Renaker Obituary

Susan A. Renaker
December 27, 1953 - May 5, 2023
Lexington, Kentucky - Susan A. Renaker died Friday, May 5, 2023 at the University of Kentucky Hospital. A native of Lexington, Susan graduated from Tates Creek High School and went on to study at the University of Kentucky. She enjoyed a long career in various roles with UK Athletics, but her favorite stories came from "road games" when she was a member of the football staff under Jerry Claiborne and Bill Curry. She belonged to the Junior League of Lexington and the Lexington Country Club. She was the chair of the Marion Miley Golf Tournament for several years, using her superb organizational skills in a volunteer capacity. Susan's many friends and family members remember her as a consummate cook, an excellent bridge player confident she could bid and make slam, a determined golfing buddy, a collector of contemporary novels, and a faithful friend who made every gathering a party with her sense of humor and her panache. She was at ease in any social situation and knew how to carry on a conversation-even with a stranger. She loved tennis, and would take a friendly $20 bet on any major tournament (always raising the stakes if her beloved Rafa was holding serve). She solved the New York Times crossword puzzle in ink. Her greeting cards for birthdays and other major holidays always arrived early and always contained a surprise. Susan was predeceased by her husband, Ted Renaker; and her parents; Charles and Clarice Gowanlock Augspurger. She is survived by her daughters; Sarah Trippe (Tyler) and Elizabeth Young (Tim Wiseman); as well as her sister, Jan Isenhour and husband, Larry, all of Lexington; along with nephew, Ben Isenhour (Cindy); niece, Celia Dyer (Mason); several great-nieces; nephews; and cousins. A reception in honor of Susan will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Arbor Youth Services, 536 West Third Street, Lexington, KY 40508 or The Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning, 251 West Second Street, Lexington, KY 40507. milwardfuneral.com
