Robert Hughley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith & Smith Funeral Home - Lexington on Feb. 18, 2026.
Robert S. Hughley, Jr., affectionately known as "Doolum," was born on June 25, 1960, and went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 13, 2026. From the very beginning, his life was marked by warmth, resilience, and a spirit that could light up any room. Baptized at Main Street Baptist Church, Robert's foundation of faith remained an anchor throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Tates Creek High School, Class of 1978, Robert carried his Commodore pride with him always. He later went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration

from Carlos Albizu University in 2004, a testament to his determination, discipline, and belief that it is never too late to pursue your goals.

Robert had a deep love for life's simple joys. He loved to travel, to explore new places, make new friends, express himself through fashion and found comfort and celebration in music.

Whether it was the rhythm of a favorite song or the hum of laughter among friends, music was part of the soundtrack of his life.

As a former employee of Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS), Robert touched the lives of countless students. He was more than a staff member, he was a presence. Known for his

charisma, lighthearted personality, and sharp sense of humor, he had a way of making people feel seen and valued.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Hughley, Sr. and Ernestine Hughley, and a brother, Ronald Lee Hughley.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved siblings: Sylvester (Cynthia) Walker, Marvin (Bobbi) Walker, Barbara Hughley-Ray, and Donald "Bean" Hughley.

His greatest pride and enduring legacy are his children: his daughter, Shelley (Markieth) Tyler-Smith, and his son, Joshua (Destiny) Hughley. Through them, his values, laughter, and strength continue.

Robert was also blessed with a circle of loyal, lifelong friends: Keven Weathers, Darryl Jones, Ron Hargette, Vince Taylor, Paul Caise, Durell Dunn, Lynferd Morton and Claude Weathers. Their bond was built on brotherhood, shared stories, and unwavering support.

Robert "Doolum" Hughley lived fully. He loved deeply. He laughed often. His legacy is not only in the milestones he achieved, but in the hearts he touched along the way. He will be remembered for his bright smile, his humor, his generosity, and the way he carried himself with style, authenticity and heart.

Yesterday

I met Doolum through my cousin Gina when he came to live in Atlanta in the 80s. He was always a cool brother and quickly a cool friend. RIP Bruh!!!
