Gary Rodgers passed away on Saturday, February 7th at the age of 74.
Gary grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He was an avid football player at Holmes High School and was known for his ability to take a tackle and keep going. Little did we all know that life would keep on “tackling” Gary throughout many troublesome years. Gary suffered mental illness and often found himself in challenging circumstances. Over time, the treatments got better, and Gary was able to live out most of his life with our beloved mother. He became an asset as our mother aged and was her constant companion. After her death, he became a much loved resident at Brookdale Whitby before moving to a more advanced care facility.
Gary loved people and made many friends. He liked to be useful and lend a hand whenever he could. He would often sit with a new care home resident and try to soothe their worries over that hard transition in life. He was never bitter even though life had not been easy, always quick with a smile and a funny anecdote.
Gary loved animals especially cats and kept a large feral population well fed for many years.
We bid farewell to our brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He would want to thank the HUGE care family that attended to his many needs over the years. We wish him a more peaceful onward journey.
