Steve was born and reared in Marietta, Georgia, the son of the late Norman Ray Russell and the late Dorothy Jean Stone Edmonds. He left high school to serve in the US Marine Corps where he obtained his GED and was trained as a diesel mechanic. Following his service to his country, Steve began a lifelong career as a diesel mechanic. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved working on them and riding. He also loved to fish and hunt. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by a brother, Skipper Ray Russell.
Survivors include his son, Skipper Ray Russell of Kansas; siblings, Barbara Jean Russell and Kimma Russell, both of Austell Georgia and Allen Lee Russell of Riddleville, Georgia; and nieces and nephews.
