Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Centralia on Jan. 28, 2026.
Gary Scott, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the age of 80. Born in Pekin, Illinois, on May 28, 1945, he is the son of Dallas Summers and Cora (Hoyle) Scott.

A proud veteran, Gary served his country honorably in the Army. A man of simple pleasures, he enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, exploring the beauty of the natural world through camping and fishing-a hobby he cherished throughout his life.

He leaves behind his daughters, Jody Verwolf (Brandon) of New Braunfels, Texas, Robin Scott of Topeka, Illinois, and Cora Jean Scott of Pekin, Illinois. His legacy also lives on through his siblings, Barry Summers of Irvington, Ricky Summers (Rhonda) of Opdyke, Cindy Taylor of Centralia, Robin Peek (Stanley) of California, and Judy Bollan (Cliff) of Peoria.

Gary was the grandfather to six grandchildren: Chasity Davidson, Kristina Davidson, Michael Davidson, Ashley DeFalco (Andrea), Chelsea Dubose (Hunter), and Sydney Verwolf, as well as 14 great-grandchildren. He is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gary in death were his wife, Cindy Scott, mother, Cora (Hoyle) Scott, and his step-father, William Scott. He is also reunited with his father, Dallas Summers, and step-mother, Florence Summers, as well as his brother, Dallas Summers.

At this time, no public services are scheduled. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Six Lemons and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home, located at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523.
