Gary L. Seney, 76, of Marquette, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025 at his home with his wife of 56 years at his side and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Gary was born on March 26, 1949 in Saginaw, MI to Lloyd F. and Myrtle R. (Houghteling) Seney. He was a 1967 graduate of Vassar High School.

Gary married the former Sally A. Hecht on May 3, 1969 in Richville, MI and together they raised their family in Vassar, MI.

Gary retired from Super Foods- Nash Finch in Bridgeport, MI after 30 years of service. He and Sally moved to Marquette in 2003, where they enjoyed his retirement together.

Gary served his community throughout his life. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Reserve where he served for six years. He was an original volunteer EMT with the Vassar Area Ambulance Service, taking the service's very first on call shift with his good friend, James Fyvie. After moving to Marquette Gary was an active member of Trailriders Enthusiast Alliance of Marquette County and he provided trail maintenance on many miles of UP trails with his friend, Tony Harry. He and Sally served as campground hosts at Baraga Sate Park in L'Anse, MI for two recent summers, and until his recent illness, Gary was a volunteer driver with Upper Peninsula Health Plan, helping UP residents get to their medical appointments near and far.

Gary loved camping with family and friends, walks along Lake Superior, bowling, euchre, and attending all kinds of NMU sporting events. Above all, he enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their academic, athletic, and extracurricular activities.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Sally Seney of Marquette; two daughters, Kendra (Paul) Knox of Harvey, MI and Wendy (Patrick Haning) Stulgaitis of Lawton, MI; grandchildren, Kalin Knox, Mitchell (Julianne) Knox, Jenna (Zach) Fish, Bradley (Rachel Worden) Guile, and Brenden, Rohn, Ramey, Joel, Nolan and Laken Stulgaitis; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Sullivan and Theodore; sister, Faith (Robert) Heinlein; and life-long best friend, Ronald (Cheryl) Sholty. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Myrtle Seney.

Per Gary's wishes no formal services will be held.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Gary's name to Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice, 914 W. Baraga Ave., Marquette, MI 49855, UP Pink Power, PO Box 307, Gwinn, MI 49841 or UPAWS, 815 S. Highway M553, Gwinn, MI 49841.
