Gary Morrell Slocum Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on September 26, 2025, following a fall in his home in Alma, Michigan. He was 81 years old.
Gary was born on November 15,1943 in Edmore, MI. Gary was the only son of Morrell and Gladys (Smith) Slocum. He graduated from Edmore High School in 1961 a year later Gary married the love of his life Guadalupe Hernandez on December 29,1962. Their 62 years of marriage were filled with enduring love, deep companionship, and countless memories-something Gary held among his greatest blessings.
Gary was a proud and involved father of three children, a grandfather to three, and a great- grandfather of four. He found immense joy in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and delighted in sharing those passions with his family. When his son took an interest in film during college, Gary Sr. became an avid movie enthusiast himself, always eager to dive into a new story on screen.
He built a long and dedicated career in the plastics industry, working for many years in Greenville, Michigan. After the local plants closed, Gary and his family relocated to Jacksonville, Texas, where he continued his work and built a new life. After 38 years in Texas, Gary and Lupe returned to Alma, Michigan in 2019 to enjoy their retirement.
Gary's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Guadalupe; his son, Gary Jr. (Zonia) Slocum of Riverside, California; his daughter Ellen (Ronnie) Bennett of Marksville, Louisiana; and his grandchildren: Kyle Andrew Jones of Marksville, Louisiana, Chelsea (Jesse) Macias of Rialto, California and Madison Slocum of Deer Park, Texas. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren-Jaxson, Everly, Jettson Macias, and Miles Jones-as well as his sister, Hazel (Donald) Christensen of Edmore, Michigan.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Morrell and Gladys; his beloved daughter Carol Lynn; his sisters, Carol Ancel and Linda Keeler; his brothers-in law, Joe Hernandez, John Hernandez, Harry Keeler, Charlie Jenison, Richard Simpert.
Gary will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle heart, and unwavering dedication to his family. His legacy lives on in the stories he shared the traditions he passed down, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Per Gary's wishes cremation has taken place with memorial services to be held at a later date. Interment will be held at a later time in Vinewood Cemetery, Edmore.
