Gary Lewis Slot passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2024. He was born March 16th, 1935 in Ogden, Utah to Lewis Pete Slot and Esther Cole Slot. He was the oldest of seven children. He attended Ogden City schools and Weber County schools.
He married Annie Thompson on July 14, 1951 in Elko, NV. Their marriage was solemnized in the SLC Temple on May 14, 1953. He was active in the LDS church.
He worked for his father at Slot Brothers Produce for 24 years. He sold and delivered produce in West Yellowstone and in Yellowstone Park in the summer and was in the marsh in the fall and winter.
He owned and operated Gary Slot Produce for 18 years. He then worked for the Bear River Duck Club for 45 years (25 as a guide and 20 years as manager). He was honored to have a wetland named after him as a tribute to his dedication to waterflow conservation. It was made possible through partnership of members of the Bear River Duck Club, Charles Victor Dover Foundation, Utah Department of Natural Resources and various others.
For almost 50 years he trapped and hunted the marshes of the Great Salt Lake. "It was a hard job, but somebody had to do it." He loved to make habitat to help wildlife and was a true man of the marsh. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and Utah Trappers Association.
He is survived by his wife Annie, his children Vickie Bojanski, Kathi (Tim) Hill, Patti Slot, and Kenny Slot, his sisters Jackie (Lynn) Nelson, Charlene Dodgen, Connie (Paul) Sacket and his brother Lewis (Cyndy) Slot. He had 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George Slot and Kerry Slot, brother-in-law Norm Dodgen (Charlene), daughter-in-law Chris Slot (Kenny) and granddaughter Georgianna Penrod (Patti). Also, many great dogs, Blackie, Scooby and of course Spike.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Birch Creek 4th Ward, 4955 Adams Avenue, So. Ogden with a viewing prior from 9:40 to 10:40 am.
