LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Gary Wayne Snipes, Sr., age 77, passed away Friday, March 13, 2026. He was born on September 2, 1948, a son of the late Sam Snipes and the late Azalee Robinson Snipes and was the loving husband of Linda Harris Snipes. Gary was lovingly known as “Bubba” by family and friends. All who knew him loved him. He enjoyed swimming, going to the beach, cutting grass, being outdoors, tinkering with old cars and trucks, and going to car shows. Gary was a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church in Lancaster and an honorary member of Crosspoint Church in Myrtle Beach, SC where his son, Wayne pastors. He loved serving as an usher at both churches.
Gary is survived by his wife, Linda Snipes; son, Rev. Gary Wayne Snipes, Jr. (Julie); granddaughter, Kendal Whitaker (Greyson); great granddaughter, Annemarie Whitaker; sister, Lois Roberts; close nephew, Donnie Snipes; special family, Stephen Catledge (Carrie) and Austin Catledge; and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Azalee Snipes; and siblings, Larry Snipes, Paul Snipes, David Snipes, and Effie Snipes.
The Celebration of Life Service for Gary will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Wayne Snipes and Mr. Wayne Snipes. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park. Gary’s favorite color was red, and the family is asking for anyone attending the service to please wear something red in memory of Gary.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Crosspoint Church, 900 67th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29572.
