Gary Allan Spear, 84 of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of LeGrand, died peacefully on January 22, 2026, in the company of his three loving children.
Gary’s wishes were to be cremated and buried with his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia. His family is being cared for by Mitchell Family Funeral Home, with no planned funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gary’s name may be directed to his family for a later designation. Gary was born on July 17th, 1941, in Tama, Iowa. He was the son of Russell and Ruby. He married his wife Patricia Ann Hala, the love of his life, on August 28, 1965. Together they raised three children: Steve (Dottie) Spear, Chris (Danny) Bell, and Chad (Megan) Spear. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Peggy (Darrell) Larson. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia and his brothers Bob, Russell, Dick, and Allan.
He worked many years for Coca- Cola bottling Company in Marshalltown. He was an avid pheasant hunter and had a great passion for raising and training bird dogs. He loved to watch westerns, play cards- especially pepper, while sharing wild stories from his youth. Most of all Gary enjoyed spending time with his family.
