RICK LEE SPEAR, age 73 of St. Clair, died at his home in the early morning of Tuesday, January 27, 2026 following a six year battle with cancer.
Rick was born in Mankato on January 17, 1953 to parents William James and Betty Lou (Drager) Spear. He graduated from St. Clair High School with the class of 1971 before beginning his working years. On March 4, 1978, Rick was united in marriage to Catherine Helen Depuydt and together they had three boys. Rick worked as an owner/operator truck driver in the construction industry for over twenty-five years and he also worked for a time as a mechanic at the downtown service location for Mankato Oil. He enjoyed building and flying scale-model airplanes, gardening, and canning his harvest.
Rick is survived by his three boys, Jake Spear of Pemberton, Josh Spear of St. James, and John Spear and his fiancé Melissa of Butterfield; three grandchildren, Morgan, Hailee, and Case Spear; and four siblings, Randy (Michelle) Spear of St. Clair, Rhonda (Steve) Koech of Madison Lake, Robin (Andy) Reichard of Pemberton, and Rochelle (Bart) Routh of Stafford, VA. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, William and Betty; and his wife Cathy.
Visitation for Rick will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at the Janesville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral Home. A closing prayer will begin at 7:00 p.m. lead by Pastor Kathy King.
Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in St. Clair on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. A potluck reception for friends and family will follow at American Legion Post 475 in St. Clair, and all are encouraged to bring a dish to share.
