Gary Steele, 74, passed away on January 3, 2026, at HCA Hospital in Lake City, Florida.
Gary was outgoing, sarcastic, and a true jokester who never met a stranger. He loved racing—especially racing with RJ—old country music, fishing, woodworking, and building projects. A devoted Seattle Seahawks fan, Gary enjoyed life and made sure those around him did too.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loretta and Henry Steele, and his brothers, Robert and James Steele.
He is survived by his brothers, Warren Johnson of Shelton, Connecticut, and Christopher Steele (Jennie) of Milford, Connecticut; his children, John Steele and Jessica Steele of Apopka, Florida; April and Jody Wilk of Trumbull, Connecticut; Michael and Katie Steele of Waterbury, Connecticut; Kimberly Kelly; Samantha Blanton; and Gary Steele (Christy). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Brandon Steele, Stephanie Gallagher (Brian), Shannon Wilk, John Steele Jr., Kamden West, Cody Steele, Craig Steele, and Nevaeh Steele, and his great-grandchild, Quinn Steele.
Gary is also lovingly remembered by his best friends, RJ Murphy (Cammi) and Wade Murphy (Renee), whose friendship meant the world to him.
A graveside service will be held on January 9, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Corinth Baptist Church in Jasper, Florida.
Gary will be remembered for his humor, loyalty, and love of life.
