Gary Taylor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sellers Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. on Feb. 6, 2026.
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Gary Lee Taylor, 75, of Chambersburg, PA. He passed away at his home, surrounded by the comfort of his family, on February 2, 2026. He was born on April 27, 1950, in Chambersburg, PA.

Gary will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 47 years, Vickie Taylor; his children, Janet Coddington, his beloved "babygirl"; Tytus Taylor (Hollie); Marcus Taylor (Mary); Vagus Taylor; and Matthew Brown, who was as much a son to him as his own. He is also survived by his siblings, Christine Baker (Bryce) and Charles Taylor Jr.(Carrie); and his cherished grandchildren, Kaimarcus Gardner, Khania Gardner, Tarryn Taylor, Charlie Taylor, Zaria Taylor, Zahir Taylor, Vanessa Reptin, Nazeer Taylor, Kadyn Taylor, Eli Tlanda, and Avi Tlanda. Gary is further survived by his mother-in-law, Doris Cave, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Estella Taylor; his brother, Rob Taylor; his sister, Carolyn Duckery; and his two children, Shayn Williams and Malayna Taylor.

As a young man, Gary was a standout athlete at Chambersburg High School, proudly competing on the football, basketball, and track and field teams. According to Tom Carroll, his football coach and a friend afterward, Gary was the first Trojan to rush for 1,000 yards. After graduating high school in 1969, Gary chased adventure. He attended Woodstock with his dear friend, Raymond Beaver, and later hitchhiked across the country before returning home to serve in the U.S. Army. Once his service ended, Gary made his home in Chambersburg, married Vickie, and proudly raised his three sons. He spent much of his working life in commercial construction. A lifelong sports fan, Gary was especially passionate about the Florida Gators. One of his traditions was bringing his Gators flag to his son's house and proudly posting it in the front yard while the game was on.

Gary's legacy lives on through the stories, laughter, and memories shared by those who loved him.

The family invites you to honor Gary's memory by sharing your time and stories at his celebration of life, to be held on March 14, 2026, from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Hume McNeal Byers Jr. AMVETS Post 224 on 5th Avenue in Chambersburg, PA.
