Gary L. Torzewski, 72, Wausau, died unexpectedly at home of natural causes.
He was born May 29, 1953, in Wausau, son of the late Eugene and Margaret (Shulta) Torzewski.
Gary graduated from Wausau East High School in 1971, where he played baseball. He also played high school football under coach Win Brockmeyer. A lifelong sports fan, Gary especially loved cheering for the Chicago Bears. After high school, he attended Antigo Technical College, where he studied accounting. Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in September of 1982. He worked in a variety of positions including security, custodial and restaurant work. Fiercely independent and strong-willed, he faced the challenges of multiple sclerosis with determination, refusing to let it define or limit him. Above all, he cherished time spent with family, especially his nieces and nephews, who held a very special place in his heart.
Survivors include his brothers, Dave (Mary) Torzewski and Mark (Barb) Torzewski; nieces and nephews, Kristy (Kevin) Zoromski, Lacey (fiancé Tim Schotz) Torzewski, Trent (Jessica) Torzewski, Troy (Sarah) Torzewski, and Hannah (Tyler) Ninneman; great nieces and nephews, Kiley, Keira, Bryson, Mila and Julius Eugene; numerous dear cousins, aunts, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service all at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau.
