Gary Dean True, a devoted family man and esteemed member of his community, passed away on May 26, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born on August 27, 1939, in Bentonville, Arkansas. Gary’s life was marked by his commitment to his business, family, and service to others.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from the University of Arkansas, Gary embarked on a successful professional journey, beginning as a civil engineer with Phillips Petroleum. In 1972, he founded Mid South Pump, Sales and Service, a business he owned and operated for 36 years until his retirement. His work ethic and character earned him respect from both peers and customers in the industry.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Gary served as a Deacon at Brentwood Baptist Church. He dedicated significant time to volunteering at Room in the Inn, helping homeless men in the Middle Tennessee area. His kindness and commitment to helping others reflect his compassionate nature.
An avid sports fan, Gary particularly enjoyed cheering on the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Tennessee Titans. His love for sports was matched only by his passion for gardening and spending quality time with his loved ones.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Linda Williams True; his daughters Valeria (Thomas) Sloan and Carrie (Billy) Smith; son Shawn (Corey) O'Neal; brother Bobby True; sister Connie True; and grandchildren Ryan Sloan, Joe Sloan, Dillan Smith, Riley Smith, and Paisley O'Neal. He was preceded in death by his brothers Don True and Charles True, as well as his sister Beverly Howard.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held on June 7, 2025, at Brentwood Baptist Church, located at 7777 Concord Rd, Brentwood, TN 37027. The visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM. A private inurnment will take place at Williamson Memorial Gardens.
Gary Dean True will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his selfless service to the community, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to Caris Hospice for their excellent care. Memorials may be made to Brentwood Baptist Church designated for Room in the Inn ministry in memory of Gary.
