Michael Robertson Parker, age 59, passed away on January 23, 2026, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Born on June 25, 1966, in Greensboro, North Carolina, Michael lived a life marked by deep faith, enduring friendships, and a profound love for nature and all of God’s creatures.
Michael was the beloved son of John and Donna Parker of Brentwood, TN. He shared a close bond with his life partner, Diane Abatuno of Murfreesboro. He is also remembered with love by his brothers Allen Parker (and wife Linda of Almond, NC) and Steven Parker (and wife Kathy of Brentwood), as well as his daughter Joy Donovan (of Knoxville, TN), niece Shelby Peet (and husband Drew of Gainesville, GA), and nephew William Parker (of Morehead City, NC). His dear friends Carol Bradley and Monte Yoho were cherished companions.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Ruth Parker and Clarke and Frances Starnes, all of Gastonia, North Carolina.
Michael received his early education at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. He later attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he formed lifelong friendships through his fraternity, Delta Tau Delta. These connections remained an important part of his life.
A man of many interests and talents, Michael found joy in fishing and golf. He had a special place in his heart for wildlife—caring tenderly for birds, squirrels, and chipmunks that visited him regularly. As a young man, he was an all-star baseball pitcher at the Civitan ball fields in Brentwood, Tennessee—earning the nickname “Catfish Parker” for his skill on the mound. He also enjoyed watching football and spending time outdoors.
Michael’s spiritual life was central to who he was. From kindergarten through adulthood, he was deeply connected to Harpeth Presbyterian Church. His faith guided him throughout his life; he loved God first and foremost and found joy celebrating with the people of God. One of his favorite hymns was “You Are Mine,” which brought him comfort especially toward the end of his journey. In those final days, he believed God was speaking directly to him: “Do not be afraid; I am with you.”
Those who knew Michael remember him as a gentle soul—kind-hearted and without enemies—who loved deeply and lived peacefully. His presence brought warmth to every room he entered. Though taken too soon from this world, Michael leaves behind a legacy of compassion and quiet strength.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. Michael is now at peace—an angel in Paradise—pain free and surrounded by eternal love. A Memorial Service will be held on February 14, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM at Harpeth Presbyterian Church 3077 Hillsboro Road. Visitation will be held at Harpeth Presbyterian Church on 2/14/2026 from 11am-12pm, prior to the memorial service.
