Gary Duane Ultican, 85 of Blue Springs, MO passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Blue Springs Wellness and Rehab Center. A memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Thursday at the chapel.
Gary was born March 4, 1940 in Owahee, NV to Thomas James and Erma Juanita Ultican. He graduated from public schools and received his master’s in Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of Kansas. He worked as an Urban Planner for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for over 30 years until he retired.
Gary was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who took pride in providing for his family. He enjoyed taking friends and family on his pontoon boat, playing golf, caring for his yard, and dabbling in watercolors. He was also an avid sports fan.
He was an active member of the Community of Christ of Church and valued the friendships he had with his church family in the Raytown congregation.
He was married to Linda (Stapleton) on October 10, 1958, she survives of the home. Other survivors include; a son, Mark Ultican (Jacque Rodgers of Venice, CA; a daughter Angela Rae Hedges of Kansas City, MO; 2 brothers, Todd James Ultican (Lanna) and Dennis S. Ultican both of Blue Springs, MO; 5 grandchildren, Ryan Cooper (Shannon), Cassie Hedges, Erika Rodgers, Zachary Ultican (Kim) and Lindsey Chapa (Nick); and 7 great grandchildren, Reece, Presley, Grayson, Adaline, Aurora, Ace and Kash. He was preceded in death by twin sons in 1959, a sister, Lenita Case and a son Gregory Duane Ultican in 2022.
