Obituary of Gary W. Volk
Gary William Volk, 68, of Rochester, NY, passed away on September 10th after a brief illness. Gary was born in Cohoes, NY, to his late parents John and Mary (Sweda) Volk. Gary is survived by his wife of 40 years, Theresa (Wilkinson) Volk, their son, Nathan (Sarah) Volk and by his sister, Daria (William) Zepko, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends who became family.
Gary graduated from Cohoes High School, SUNY @ Cobleskill and Rochester Institute of Technology. He has been employed by the Crosman Corporation for the past 12 years as a Senior Buyer. Always a dedicated employee committed to giving 100%, he had an incredible work ethic and was both admired and respected by his co-workers. Previously, he held positions with Anixter, Labelon and Burroughs Corp.
Gary was a devoted husband and father always concerned with the well-being of his family. At family gatherings, he was known as the "music man." He had a keen interest in all genres of music from the 60's forward. Famous for his playlists, he would liven up any event with the gift of music. An avid concert goer, he loved experiencing his favorite artists performing live. A walking encyclopedia of all things Beatles, he could name songs, artists, and albums at the drop of a hat.
Gary loved to travel, stroll the beaches of the Outer Banks, NC, camp and kayak in the Adirondacks, and explore the many wineries throughout the Finger Lakes. Always up for a roadtrip, many weekends were spent discovering local festivals, hiking trails, or visiting state parks. Recent vacations included trips to Alaska, Cape Cod, Maine and Vermont.
When at home, you could find Gary playing with his cat, Sam, watching old movies, or relaxing to music by the backyard firepit. Gary had a great sense of humor, never taking himself too seriously. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Calling Hours will be held Wednesday, Sept 27th from 4 to 7 pm at the Funeral Home (570 Kings Hwy S, Rochester, NY 14617). Gary's memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28th at 11:30 am at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport NY 14450.
