Gary Andrew Walberg

Gary Andrew Walberg, age 79, of Centerville, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Gary was born on January 29, 1946 in Melrose, Iowa, the son of Verda Larrington. He graduated from Albia High School. On October 17, 1970, Gary was united in marriage to Roberta "Bert" Ann Tabler. To this union, three children were born, Scott, Robert and Todd.
A man of many passions, Gary found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying long days of golfing, hunting and fishing. He spent countless hours perfecting his woodworking skills, creating beautiful quilt racks and birdhouses that will forever stand as a testament to his craftsmanship.
One of his greatest joys was watching the Iowa and Iowa State basketball teams, both men's and women's, and he could often be found rooting for his favorite teams with an intensity matched only by his love for his family.
Gary was known for his quick wit and mischievous sense of humor. He was often described as "ornery" by those closest to him, always with a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face. But beyond his playful nature, Gary had a heart full of love, especially for his wife, Bert, whom he missed deeply after her passing. Their love story was one for the ages, built on a foundation of mutual respect, admiration, and unwavering devotion.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and fond memories. Gary was a man who lived life on his own terms, who cherished his time with family and friends, and who made the world a better place simply by being in it. He will be missed more than words can express.
Those left to honor Gary's memory are his children, Scott (Tinna) Walberg and Todd (Jennifer) Walberg; his grandchildren, Zach Walberg and Laynie Walberg; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta "Bert" Walberg; his mother, Verda Larrington; and his son, Robert Carl Walberg.
Per wishes, cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a later date.
