Gary Banks White, MD, age 86, of Roosevelt, passed away August 2, 2022, at the Utah Valley Hospital following a heart attack.
He was born on May 5, 1936, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and was raised in Spanish Fork, Utah; He served a mission in Brazil and graduated from BYU and then George Washington University's medical school and has been known as "Doc" ever since.
While in Washington DC he met his wife, Carole Anne Derrick. They were married September 8, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple.  He was drafted out of a medical residency and served during the Vietnam War, being stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.  Gary and Carole then made their home in Roosevelt, Utah, where they raised their 7 children.
Doc lived a rich life; he hunted, flew planes, survived a charging cape buffalo and a charging grizzly bear; directed The Messiah for seven years (which he considered one of his greatest adventures), and became a well known gunmaker specializing in muzzle loaders.  He was the founder of Green River Rifle Works and White Systems Muzzleloading.  He served in many church callings and was known as a gifted teacher.
He practiced medicine in Roosevelt for 52 years, starting as a general practitioner and specializing in G.I. Medicine since 1978.  He strove for compassion and understanding with his patients and to have each leave with "a full basket".
Gary loved his life and he loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carole; children, Jennifer (Jeff) Benson, James (AnnaLiese) White, David (Debbie) White, Sara Small, Julie (Eric) Elton, Jonathan (Desirae) White, and Rebecca (Jake) Garner; his sister Janice Thomas; 26
grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Hallam; brothers, Jay and Joe;  daughter-in-law, Lori Maxwell White; and son-in-law, Roger Small.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022,  at 10:00 a.m. at the Roosevelt West Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (150 South Skyline Drive).  There will be a viewing on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the Hullinger Mortuary and from 9-9:45 a.m. Monday at the Church.
Burial will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
