Gary W. Whitehead

Gary W. Whitehead, 83, of Sturgis, Ky, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at the Linda White Hospice Facility. Gary was born on September 14, 1942 and spent his life dedicated to faith, family, and service. He was a proud owner of Whitehead Electric company, which he founded and operated for 62 years, earning a reputation for integrity, hard work, and craftsmanship. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Gary served his country honorably as a member of the Vietnam-era Construction Battalion (Seabees). His commitment to service extended beyond his military career through his lifelong involvement in community and professional organizations. He was a member of the Gideons International, the Masonic Lodge, Shriners Hospital International, and was honored as a Kentucky Colonel. Gary was passionate about jail ministry where he served for over 30 years. He also served for many years with the national Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) in various leadership roles and was inducted into the Academy of Electrical Contractors. Gary was a devoted member of Sturgis First Baptist Church, where his faith guided his life and relationships.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Whitehead of Sturgis; daughter Susan Whitehead of Hanson, KY; son Robert Whitehead and his wife Andrea of Providence, KY; and one sister Barbara Shelton of Dade City, FL; Grandchildren Katlyn Whitehead Durrance, Alex Whitehead, Max Whitehead and Annie Whitehead.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Carl C. and Kathleen Whitehead. Siblings Ron Whitehead, Johnny Whitehead, Cynthia Whitehead, David Whitehead and Anita Jenkins.
Visitation will be held at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, Ky on Monday October 27th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 28th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with funeral following. Burial will take place at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Ky.
