Gary Wiegand Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Park Funeral Home North Riverside Chapel on Mar. 16, 2026.
Gary James Wiegand, 79, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, after a long hospital stay.

Gary was born in Evansville, Indiana in 1946 to the late Carmen and Horace Wiegand. He grew up in Verona, NJ. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, an experience that helped shape the strong character and sense of duty he carried throughout his life.

Following his service, Gary built a successful career in sales, where he was known for his work ethic, ability to connect with people, and dedication to his profession.

Gary deeply valued family, friendship, and the simple joys of life. He loved spending time outdoors and had a particular passion for rowing, being a member of the LLRC for many years. Those who knew Gary will remember his appreciation for nature, his warm personality, his love of a spirited debate, and the joy he found in being surrounded by family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Diane; daughter, Alison (Brandon) Striggles; son, Travis Wiegand; his cherished grandchildren, Ella Wiegand, Riley Striggles, Nikolas Wiegand, Ramsay Striggles, River Striggles; sister Kathie (Steve) Smith; nieces, Patty Hall, Candice Hahn; nephews Alan McComas, Jason Smith.

Gary's family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren grow.

Gary will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication to his family, and the many memories he created with those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 29, 3:00 – 6:00 pm at The Boathouse at Lake Lanier - 3105 Clarks Bridge Rd, Gainesville, GA. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to The Lake Lanier Rowing Club at 3105 Clarks Bridge Rd, Gainesville, GA.
